Mezzo Secolo Di Ritornelli is a charts reference book by Stefano Cilio published in July 2019.[1] The book is about the best-selling songs in the Italian singles charts from 1959 to 2018 and it features a top 200 list of all time.

Content[edit]

The book lists the top 200 songs entering the weekly Italian singles charts between 1959-2018 (only top 10 entries). Top 100 acts also have a mini-biography with their chart entry and exit date, issue year, genre, points, weeks on chart and weeks at number one, while other sections of the book have reports on the charts, such as how they have changed due to the event of digital downloads and streaming having an effect, a list of all songs and singers in an A-Z list at the end of the book for easy reference and a general comment on Italian music and official charts.[2]

This is the second edition of the book since the first one was published by Unificato in 2015.[3] The new edition has a number of changes, including the update of the song list including years between 2015-2018 and a more specific comment focusing on comparisons between Italian and international markets and introducing emerging trends and genres.

The news, political and lifestyle magazine Sette, weekly supplement of the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, described the book as follows: "More than a book, it is a paper jukebox. Mezzo Secolo Di Ritornelli is the superchart of the 200 most popular songs in Italy from 1959 to today".[4]
