Mfoundi Flood Canal

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Mfoundi Flood Canal is an urban drainage and flood-control infrastucture in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon. It is constructed along the Mfoundi river and its tributaries, the canal was developed to address recurrent flooding that had affected cities for decades.

Development of Mfoundi Canal

To combat flooding, the Government of Cameroon launched the Yaounde Sanitation Project with financial support from African Development Bank. The project involved the construction and rehabilitation of major drainage canals along the Mfoundi river and its tributaries.

The canal system includes several kilometers of concrete-lined channels designed to improve stormwater runoff and prevent the overflow of riverbanks during the rainy seasons. By 2021, approximately, approximately 20km of new canals has been constructed and 16km of existing drainage systems have been rehabilitated.
