Biography[edit]

Micah Goodman was born in 1974 to American parents, Gerry Goodman and Maggie Love. His mother, originally from the Chickasaw Nation.[2] with Indian roots, converted to Judaism and immigrated to Israel with his father after the Six-Day War. Goodman grew up in Jerusalem and studied at Yeshiva Ein Zurim.

He obtained his master's degree in Maimonidean philosophy (July 2001) and his doctorate in the historiography and historiosophy of Maimonidean thought on Nachmanides's philosophy (June 2005) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Goodman is the author of several bestselling books, including Maimonides and the Book That Changed Judaism (2010)[3], The Dream of the Khazari (2012)[4], Moses's Final Speech (2014)[5], Catch-67 (2017)[6], The Wondering Jew (2019)[7], and The Attention Revolution (2021)[8]. His works aim to make medieval Jewish thought accessible to a contemporary audience[9]. While his books have been praised for their clear style, some critics argue that he presents the thoughts of classical thinkers as relevant to a contemporary audience at the expense of remaining true to the original intentions of those thinkers[10].

In June 2014, Goodman, along with musician Ehud Banai, received the Liebhaber Prize for promoting religious tolerance from the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies. In 2017, he was recognized as one of the fifty most influential Jews in the world by The Jerusalem Post[11], and in 2019, he was included in Liberal magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in Israel[12]

Goodman lectures on Jewish and Israeli thought, philosophy, and general topics in Israel, Europe, and North America. He is a researcher at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem and a founder of Beit Prat - Israeli Midrasha. Goodman also co-hosts the podcast "Mifleget Hamachshavot" with Efrat Shapira Rosenberg, which explores the ideas behind Israeli politics and has become one of the most listened to podcasts in Israel[13]
