Michael Bindlechner (3 September 1957 in Laa an der Thaya, Lower Austria) is an Austrian director, director of photography and producer.[1]
Life[edit]
Michael Bindlechner was born in Laa an der Thaya a small town in Lower Austria, as the son of the local chemist. He played his first starring role as "Max" in the film production of Wilhelm Busch's "Max and Moritz" [2] at the age of ten, for which he received a camera as a souvenir. After his training as a photographer he worked as an camera assistant for many directors of photography, including Derek Vanlint and Tony Imi. In 1980 he began working independently as a director of photography and filmed documentary and TV movies all around the world. In 1987 he produced his first film as a director and has since worked on over 250 national and international commercials. He has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion in Cannes. In 1993 Michael Bindlechner founded the production company FRAMES filmproduction in Vienna and produced and directed the feature film IN HEAVEN (In Heaven (film)). The film, starring Merab Ninidze, Sylvie Testud, and Xaver Hutter, won him several international awards. Among others In Heaven was nominated for "Best Film" at the International Film Festival Rotterdam [3] as well as for "Best Film" at the Max Ophüls Price where it also won the "Best Actor - Award" (Xaver Hutter).[4] Michael Bindlechner continued to build a reputation for himself in the advertising world as a director and producer. Michael Bindlechner’s specialities lie both in “storytelling” and in “food and tabletop” departments. He has long been considered one of the world’s leading commercial directors. During a break from work in early 2000 he retreated to his second home in Edelprinz and wrote the book “Edelprinzer Gärtnerjahr. Tagebuch einer Auszeit” [5][6] which was published in 2003.
