Michael Carbonara (born May 24, 1983) is an American business executive and political candidate who serves as the chief executive officer and founder of Ibanera, a digital banking platform. He is a Republican candidate for the United States House of Representatives, seeking to represent Florida's 25th congressional district in the 2026 election.[1][not in citation given]
Early life
Michael Carbonara was born in 1983 in Long Island, New York, and grew up in a Catholic household with his single mother, older brother, and younger sister. Carbonara has cited the influence of his grandparents, who experienced the Great Depression and World War II era, as significant in shaping his perspective. His grandfather served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and his great-uncle was a member of the United States Air Force during World War II.
Education
Carbonara attended high school in upstate New York before enrolling at Ulster County Community College, where he earned an associate degree in business administration. He later pursued a non-traditional path, finding his interest in entrepreneurship in his late twenties.
Business career
Carbonara founded Ibanera in 2017, a fintech company that provides cross-border payments, currency conversion, and digital banking services[2]. Partnered with Cross River Bank,[3] the company raised a $18.5 million funding round in 2023.[4]
Political career
Carbonara declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida's 25th congressional district for the 2026 election. The general election is scheduled for November 3, 2026, where he would face incumbent Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz.[5][6][7][8][9]
