Michael Ellis (Science Communicator)
Michael Battiscombe Ellis (born 15 October 1982 in Pretoria, Gauteng) is a science communicator and educator who has worked at Cape Town Science Centre (previously MTN Science Centre).[1], Sci-Bono Discovery Centre[2], Sci-Enza Science Centre[3] (at the University of Pretoria) and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement, SAASTA[4] (a business unit of the National Research Foundation)
Early life and career[edit]
Michael was born in Pretoria, South African on 15 October 1982.
His father was a paediatrician and the chief medical superintendent at Ga-rankuwa Hospital (now Dr George Mukhari Hospital). His mother, Dr Shan Ellis (nee Thomas) studied as a veterinarian and work as a veterinary research at Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, before changing careers to work as a Montessori Directress at Hatfield Montessori Preschool[5]
Michael started his formal career working at SciEnza Science Centre[3] at the University of Pretoria as a science communication volunteer, he then moved to Cape Town to work at the MTN Science Centre (now Cape Town Science Centre[1]) as the senior science educator and then as the education manager. Michael then moved back to Gauteng to work as the science centre manager and was promoted to a senior manager at Sci-Bono Discovery Centre[2].
Michael then took up a position as the science communication manager at the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement, SAASTA[4] (a business unit of the National Research Foundation).
