Michael Goguen is a philanthropist, a venture capitalist[1], and a first responder [2]. After a 30 year career as a leading technologist and venture capitalist in silicon valley, Michael now resides full-time in Montana.[3]

Philanthropy[edit]

Michael is focused on finding solutions to local and state-wide challenges to improve the lives of MT residents, and on helping great entrepreneurs start and build new and innovative companies that positively impact us all.[4] He supports all costs of the Two Bear Air program, which provides world-class aviation support for search and rescue teams in Flathead County, Montana and other agencies across the region. [5][6] Recently, Michael has focused on Gene Editing claiming that gene-editing technology could be the key to curing cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases that have confounded humans for generations. Venture Capital[edit]

During a nearly 20 year career at Sequoia Capital, Michael led approximately 50 early and growth stage technology investments with many highly successful exits.[9] Among them: Viptela ($610M by CSCO, 5/1/17)[10], Quantenna ($606M mkt cap, 10/28/16 IPO)[10], Infoblox ($1.6B by Vista Equity, 9/19/16), StemCentrx ($10.2B by ABBV, 4/28/16), OpenDNS ($635M by CSCO, 6/30/15), Virident ($685M by WDC, 9/13/13), Litepoint ($580M by TER, 9/14/11), Netscreen ($4B by JNPR, 2004), Avanex ($10B peak mkt cap, 2000), Redback Networks ($18.1B peak mkt cap, 2000). Prior to Sequoia Michael spent 10 years in various engineering, research, and product management roles at DEC, SynOptics and Centillion, and was a director of Engineering at Bay Networks (NT). Michael was also a Technical Chairman of the ATM Forum. [11] Michael has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.[12]
