Michael Heise (born c. 1989), is the founder of the Libertarian Party in the United States's Mises Caucus.
Biography[edit]
Michael Heise was initially interested in 9/11 truth theories during his highschool years, before discovering Alex Jones as part of his early exploration with Libertarianism and conservatism more generally.[1]Heise has stated, "All that really just pulled me into this underground world, and I just never looked back since." Heise is widely cited as the founder of the Mises Caucus and has been called by Reason magazine editor-in-chief Nick Gillespie as the Éminence grise of the Libertarian Party in the United States c. 2022.[2]
Heise cited Ron Paul and the movement around Ron Paul that grew up out of the Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign and Ron Paul 2012 presidential campaign as key moments in his ideological development, most specifically the now famous Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul on stage moment discussing the causes for the September 11 attacks and the legitimacy or not of the subsequent invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan by the United States military.[3] Additionally Heise was quoted in the Washington Post as saying of Paul, "Ron Paul in front of a bunch of conservatives had the audacity to say we should legalize heroin. He got a bunch of conservatives to cheer that on.”[4]
The Southern Poverty Law Center has questioned whether Heise may align the Libertarian Party in the United States too closely in their view with right-wing ideas.[5]
