'Michael James Person (born December 11, 1970) is an American astronomer, who has been a senior lecturer of planetary astronomy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2007.[1] His team specializes in the construction of models of planetary atmospheres and stellar occultations. He also serves as the Director of the Wallace Astrophysical Observatory [2]

Early life and education

Person was raised in Latham, New York, and graduated from Shaker High School in 1988. He earned his B.S. in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992. He then went on to earn his PhD in planetary science and completed his thesis, titled "The use of stellar occultations to study the figures and atmospheres of small bodies in the outer solar system", under the supervision of James Elliot.[3]
