Michael Somenek
Michael T. Somenek born 1980 is an American facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Washington, D.C. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at George Washington University and co-founder of Somenek+Pittman MD, a plastic surgery practice with offices in Washington, D.C. and New York City. Somenek has contributed extensively to the peer-reviewed literature on facial rejuvenation, gender-affirming facial surgery, and minimally invasive aesthetics, and has served as guest editor of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Education and training
Somenek received a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Miami. He earned his M.D. from Rush Medical College at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago in 2006, where he subsequently completed a five-year residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery (2006–2011).
He then completed a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2011–2012) under the supervision of Dr. J. Regan Thomas, a past president of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Dr. Dean Toriumi, a specialist in rhinoplasty.[1]
Career
Following his fellowship, Somenek established a clinical practice in Washington, D.C. In 2018, he co-founded Somenek+Pittman MD – Advanced Plastic Surgery with plastic surgeon Dr. Troy A. Pittman. The practice is located in the West End neighborhood of Washington, D.C., with an additional office in Manhattan, New York City.[1]
Somenek holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at George Washington University.[2] He is affiliated with George Washington University Hospital and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.[3]
His clinical specialties include deep-plane facelifts, rhinoplasty (including complex revision cases), eyelid surgery, and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. He has lectured on these topics at national and international meetings.[4]
