Early life[edit]
Raised in Wollongong, NSW , McHugh studied drama at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts.[citation needed] He began his career in Australian independent films in the early 2000s, before working in the soap opera Neighbours (2011–2012) After moving to the United States, he starred in a couple of short films. In 2018, McHugh made his breakthrough role by co-starring in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Upcoming films[edit]
In June 2018, McHugh confirmed that he will portray the brainwashed, innocent high school student Alex Mendes in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
McHugh is rumoured to be starring in Suicide Squad 2 as Quentin, the brother of Harley Quinn, starring alongside Margot Robbie. scheduled to begin production in late 2018. Also rumoured to be starring in the 2020 Adventure, Comedy Barbieland as Ken, staring alongside Anne Hathaway
