Michel Paoli
Michel Paoli , born in 1966, is a university professor in Italian literature and civilization at the University of Amiens. From 2011 to 2017, he headed the TRAME research team (host team 4284). He is also a photographer.
Biography
Former student of the Lycée Condorcet, of the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud, professor agrégé, doctor of the Sorbonne, holder of the authorization to conduct research (2001), he is a university professor, a specialist in the Italian Renaissance and more particularly Leon Battista Alberti and Ludovico Ariosto. Outside his specialty, he published articles ranging from the origin of the sonnet to Vasco Pratolini, but he was mainly interested in World War I in Trentino (Italy). In 1995, he created a website dedicated to the bibliography on Leon Battista Alberti.
In September 2004, he organized at the Louvre Auditorium in Paris, with Françoise Choay, the symposium Leon Battista Alberti : humanist and architect.
In 2008, he organized with Marie-Sophie Masse the two study days Une, deux, trois… zéro Renaissance(s) ? (One, two, three… zero Renaissance(s)?) (Maison de la culture d'Amiens, April 1, 2008 and November 21, 2008), on the validity and interest of the Renaissance concept used to study both the Middle Ages and the Renaissance itself.
In March 2009, he and Monica Preti-Hamard organized a symposium at the Louvre Auditorium on L'Arioste et les arts.
In November 2009, with the help of Francesca Belviso, he organized the symposium Le De familia de L.B. Alberti : humanisme ou capitalisme ? (L. B. Alberti’s De familia: humanism or capitalism ?) (Amiens, Bibliothèque Louis Aragon), devoted to the Books of the family of Leon Battista Alberti (1430s), and taking up the subject of the debate between Max Weber and Werner Sombart on the origin of capitalism and on the interest or not of considering Alberti's work as a source on the new capitalist mentality.
In November 2011, he organized with Stéphane Bourdin and Anne Tallon the international symposium "La forme de la ville de l'Antiquité à la Renaissance" (The shape of the city from Antiquity to the Renaissance) (Amiens, Logis du Roy, November 7-9, 2011).
He also organized two conferences on Ariosto in Amiens: July 2016 Les 500 ans du Roland furieux (The 500th anniversary of Orlando Furioso), with Paulina Spiechowicz, and July 2017, L'Arioste, ses Satires et sa vie, with Ida Campeggiani and Paulina Spiechowicz. Michel Paoli is also a photographer (exhibition on L'Architecture de la Renaissance à Florence et Venise/ Renaissance Architecture in Florence and Venice, Amiens, Espace Camille-Claudel, March-April 2008, as part of the Printemps de la Renaissance then in Paris, at the École normale supérieure (rue d'Ulm), in April 2009, as part of the Semaine de la Renaissance). In 2016, the Italian publisher Officina Libraria published an album of his images entitled "De Paris et d'ailleurs - Photographies 1985-2015".
