Michelle Edgina Axille (born May 29, 2006) is an Indonesian figure skater.[1] She began training in 2012. She achieved a gold medal in Technical Platinum and the "Best Jumper" award during the "Bucharest Open" event on the 8th of May 2021.[2]

Career[edit]

Axille began skating at age of six.[3]. Since then, she has been taking part in competitions and championships, including the 2013 Skate Asia, 2018 Skate Ontario Regional Series, and 2021 Bucharest Open.

Her first exposure to skating was during a birthday party at an indoor ice rink in Jakarta, Indonesia, which later became her home rink[3]. On that day, Axille discovered an interest in figure skating and enrolled in a class[3]. What followed was training under the Indonesian figure skating coach Alberto Widjaja[4], while also pursuing her education in form of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)[5]

Outside the rink, she practices dancing, ballet, yoga, core muscle training, and flexibility training.[6]

Early career[edit]

Being under the wing of coach Alberto Widjaja, Axille learned figure skating, and competed in local ice skating events, mainly at her home rink at Sky Rink Jakarta.[7]

Seasons[edit]

2013–2014 season[edit]

In August of 2013 she participated in her first International competition at the age of seven as a member of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI)[8]. The event, "Skate Asia", was held in Bangkok, Thailand. During that competition, Axille won several medals in the Beta category.[3]

2014–2015 season[edit]

In December 2014, Axille participated in the South East Asia Trophy which was a regional event organized by the International Skating Union (ISU) as a competitive event for all eligible figure skaters in South East Asia.[9] At this competition, Axille achieved a Bronze medal in Basic Juvenile category. This also concluded Indonesia's first year participating in ISU competitions.[10]

2018–2019 season[edit]

On this season she participated in the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2018[11][12] and later the Reykjavik International Games 2019 both in the Advanced Novice Girls category. She did not win any medal, and finished 18th and 13th respectively.[13]

However, in October 2018, Axille competed in one of Skate Canada's sectional series event, the Skate Ontario "Octoberfest Sectional Series" in Barrie, Canada. She competed as a member of the Canadian Mariposa School of Skating, in the Juvenile Women Group 2 (U14) and won the 1st place with a margin of 1.98 points.[14] Later in the same month she joined another Skate Ontario Event "Skate Skokie" in Huntsville and finished 2nd.[15]

2020–2021 season[edit]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Michelle Axille did not participate in any figure skating event in 2020. After competing in Dongguan in late 2019[13][16], Axille has no known record of competitive figure skating until later in 2021, when she participated in the Bucharest Open.

Bucharest Open 2021 is an international figure skating championship held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it was held virtually by means of recording videos and submitting them to the committee.[17] Axille won 1st place in Technical Platinum Category and was also given the "Best Jumper" award in the championship despite limited training due to the pandemic.[18]

This particular victory granted her coverage from multiple media outlets[1][2][6], and a congratulatory message from Indonesian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania[19]

Personal life[edit]

Outside the Rink, Michelle Edgina Axille appears to show an interest in Culinary Arts and Modelling.[6]

In Culinary, Axille does food photography and blogging, while also practicing baking pastries[1]. Michelle Axille's other pursuits mainly consists of fashion shows.[5]
