Michelle Valberg
Michelle Valberg is a world-renowned, award-winning Canadian wildlife conservation photographer passionate about using her artistic lens to introduce and connect the world to Canada’s vast landscapes and wildlife, particularly in the Arctic where she has travelled more than 60 times. Michelle is a 2022 Order of Canada[1] recipient for raising awareness of Canada’s North, gold medal winner of the prestigious 2022 World Photographic Cup[2] for her iconic photo of an elusive Spirit Bear named "Boss," winner of the 2021 Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers[3], recipient of the Louie Kamookak Medal[4] from the Royal Canadian Geographic Society and was the first Canadian Nikon Ambassador[5] to be the face of a Nikon international product launch. She is also a Canadian Geographic Photographer-in-Residence.
Her work has been featured extensively around the world – including the Canada Post stamp series “Bears”[6] featuring her images of a Polar bear, Kermode bear, and Black bear, and a Royal Canadian Mint Coin[7] with her iconic image of a Nunavut drum dancer.
Michelle’s work extends beyond photography. In 2008, Michelle co-founded Project North[8], a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children living in the far North. Project North has delivered over $1.2 million of sporting equipment to 30 northern communities.
