Michellee Fox is a American chef who lives in Washington. She was born in Brazil and immigrated to the United States as a child. She is best known as an advocate for sustainable eating, and is part of the Slow Food movement. She is a certified teacher of Korean natural farming and of JADAM, which translates to "people that resemble nature."[1] Fox is also co-owner of The Untamed Fox Farm.[2] In 2021, She was invited to judge the final episode of Street Food Naija, a food contest produced by FoodBay TV in Lagos, Nigeria.[3]

Career[edit]

Early on, Fox created two major festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2009, The Eco Cup Festival[4] included professional skateboarders like Bob Burnquist competing on a 175-foot long mini mega ramp with a 30-foot drop. Bands including the Dead Kennedys performed.

In 2010, Fox created the City Underground Festival[5] at Fort Mason featuring an amateur skateboarding contest hosted by the World Cup of Skateboarding.

In the same era, Fox also helped raise the profile of the Little Skillet restaurant, named by Wall Street Journal as one of the hottest lunch spots in San Francisco.[6]

She has also worked as a kitchen manager at the New Parkway Theater[7] in Oakland, which matched menu items to film.

As a chef, Fox creates recipes that have a link to slow foods[8] and to cannabis[9]

Podcasting[edit]

Fox is the host of the podcast CraftFood Podcast, where she interviews other chefs on topics that are relevant in the cooking industry or to sustainability.[10] As a guest, she has spoken on the podcasts Normalgirl_fitness,[11] The Journey Onwards,[12] This Sustainable Life: Solve for Nature,[13][14][15] and How to Do The Pot[16] among others. Fox focused on growing cannabis at home and cooking with cannabis with How to Do the Pot,[17] demystifying cannabis for women.[18][19][20]

In 2021 Pitadas and Palpites, a Brazilian podcast that is broadcast in Brazilian Portuguese spoke with Fox about her journey as a chef and immigrant in the United States.[21]

Also in 2021 the Best Served Podcast included Fox's story "A journey onwards" where she talks about her experience as a chef and her responsibility to contribute to society,[22] and The State of Woman Blog wrote an article about Fox's contributions to the field of cooking and sustainability, and the contributions of women.[23]

Activism[edit]

Fox has been active in the United Nations Food Systems Summit of 2021.[24] She also participated in OpenIdeo's LIFTHub challenge that helps connect farmers to markets.[25]
