Mickael Marabou (born September 6, 1993) is a Haitian-American singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur.[1][2] She is recognized for pioneering and popularizing "Afro-Kréyol", a musical genre that fuses traditional Haitian music style such as Compas and Rabòday with Afrobeat.[3][4]
Early life
Mickael Marabou was born in Brooklyn, New York City, into a family of six children of Haitian descent. Her father is originally from Léogâne and her mother is from Cap-Haïtien.[5][6] Raised in the United States, she was immersed in her parents' musical heritage from an early age.[7][8] She began studying music as a child and learned to play the guitar.[9][10]
Career
She made her debut on the music scene in 2012 with the collective The Official Food Gang, a group performing parodies in Haitian Creole over popular musical tracks. In 2013, she co-founded the all-female music group Bèl alongside China Black and Melanie.[11][12][13]
Following the group's dissolution, she embarked on a solo career in 2017, releasing her debut independent single titled "Bèl Fanm". In 2018, she collaborated with Haitian artist Wanito on the track "Viens avec moi".[14][15]
Marabou subsequently shifted her focus toward international collaborations, attempting to establish a cultural bridge between the Caribbean and Africa. In 2019, she released the single "Fever" featuring Nigerian singer Skales and the Ugandan dance group Triplets Ghetto Kids. The track gained viral traction on social networks and accumulated nearly a million streams. She followed up with other notable international collaborations, including "Mamma" featuring BM Kongo and "Mwen Love Ou" featuring Nigerian superstar Davido.[16][17]
After a nearly three-year hiatus, she made her musical return in September 2025 with the solo Rabòday single "Pran Plezim".[18]
Business ventures
Outside of her musical performances, Marabou is active in music marketing, public relations, and live event booking.
On January 14, 2025, she became the first Caribbean artist to host and curate an Audiomack Connect event in Manhattan, New York, an industry networking series organized by the music streaming platform Audiomack.[19]
