Mihail Korubin ― Macedonian artist (painter) (born April 11, 1986 in Skopje, Macedonia).[1] He is the third generation of visual artists, his grandfather artist Mile Korubin and his father artist Rubens Korubin. He organized multiple solo and group exhibitions in Skopje, New York City, Toronto, Saint Paul de Vince, Sofia.
Education
He graduated from F.L.U (Faculty of Fine Arts) in Skopje, Macedonia, in the painting department. Mihail completed his master's degree in painting at the same faculty in the class of prof. Blagoja Manevski.[2]
Art style
According to the Style.No.Chaser magazine, about Mihail it is said: "He mixes styles and techniques to develop alluring textures that are almost cinematic in appearance. Mihail cherishes the fact that he grew up in a home where art ran rampant and his early art memories from childhood, which embedded somewhere in his head, sometimes mysteriously appear in his work today".[3]
He has created colorful, expressive portraits that capture subtle gestures that can easily be taken for granted in daily interactions. Yet, in his works, these minute glances and movements speak volumes about a person’s frame of mind. Korubin has a penchant for blending realism with abstraction — floating shapes and smudgy colors seem to form the subjects’ body language as much as their physical features do.[4]
Korubin is the creator of the art style of artistic geometric symbols that he has called "Artokens". "Artokens," which is a coinage of two words "Art" and "token," briefly means artistic symbols. Artokens are an artistic representation of certain and chosen words that denote feelings, emotions, characters, natural phenomena, etc. Always created and shaped from almost perfect simple geometric shapes, such as a circle, triangle, square and alike.
Regarding the symbols themselves, Mihail has expressed himself in September 2021:[5]
Through these forms, my goal is to process a word in a minimalistic record, explaining its action that would give it meaning in the form of a symbol. "All Artokens are hand-drawn by me and made into limited edition drawings."
Projects
Mihail has worked on several music projects and concerts as well as art editions for wine with his signature.[6]
Personal life
Mihail Korubin is married to Macedonian music artist Karolina Gočeva.[7]
