Career[edit]
Dr. Mike Feinberg is President and Co-Founder of Texas School Venture Fund (TXSVF) and Career For All, organizations dedicated to increasing the supply and diversity of quality schools in communities seeking more educational options. Career For All has incubated several schools and organizations, including Eastex Jensen Neighborhood School, Westchase Neighborhood School, WorkTexas adult trade school, WorkTexas Premier High School at Gallery Furniture, Neighborhood Preschools, Project Remix Ventures at Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, and the Shawn M. Hurwitz Fellowship for education leaders.
Mike's educational achievements include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania (1991) and a Masters of Education from National-Louis University (2005). He has received honorary doctorates of Humane Letters from Yale University (2010) and Duke University (2015). In 2015, he was awarded the National Community Service Award from Spelman College. He is also a member of the Society of Fellows of the University of Houston's Honors College.
In 2004, Dr. Feinberg was named an Ashoka Fellow, an award given to leading social entrepreneurs with innovative solutions and the potential to change patterns across society. In 2005, he was the commencement speaker for the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences. That same year, he led the effort to start a public K-8 school in Houston for Hurricane Katrina evacuees from New Orleans, opening NOW College Prep (New Orleans West) in just 10 days.
Mike's work has been featured in various media outlets, including the Oprah Winfrey Show and CBS 60 Minutes. His efforts were also chronicled in the book "Work hard. Be nice." by Washington Post reporter Jay Mathews.
Personal Life[edit]
Mike is married to Colleen Dippel, and they have two children: Gus, age 19, and Abadit, age 14, whom they adopted from Ethiopia in 2011. As a result of his children's activities, Mike has become an avid high school football and AAU basketball fan.
