Mike Hawkins

Michael William Hawkins (born December 28, 1959) is an American author, speaker, consultant, and executive coach[1] He is considered an industry thought leader in leadership, consultative selling, self-development, and business improvement. Hawkins is the President of Alpine Link Corporation, a boutique consulting firm.[2] With his in-depth knowledge and experience in consulting, coaching, and leadership development, he has enabled numerous individuals and organizations to overcome challenging obstacles, attain unprecedented levels of success, and achieve their highest ambitions.[3][4]

Early life and education[edit]

Hawkins was born in Fort Worth, Texas. His parents were both self-employed. After raising Hawkins and his sister, his mother founded a successful legal written deposition company, Corbin & Associates. His father founded and ran a highly-regarded manufacturer of well-logging equipment, Comprobe Incorporated, until his death in 2015.

Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and an advanced management certificate from Harvard Business School.[5]

Career[edit]

Product development engineer and sales

Upon completing his degree in engineering, Hawkins realized that he was not interested in being an engineer.[6] After working four and a half years full time during college as a product development engineer for Halliburton and then one year for Electrospace, he joined IBM in 1985. He worked four years as an account sales representative in the manufacturing and telecommunications industry and went on to hold positions as sales manager, global accounts client executive, and global industry segment executive over his fifteen-year career with IBM. Between field assignments, he held marketing positions and led several industry-acclaimed internal consulting programs that included reengineering sales processes, developing a global opportunity management system, and institutionalizing a best-of-breed large account planning process.

Industry leader

Following IBM, Hawkins joined Scient, an eBusiness systems innovator and served as the global telecommunications and utilities industry general manager. He led sales executives, consultants, and program managers in developing innovative eBusinesses. He re-engineered Scient’s sales process, developed industry-respected thought leadership, and implemented progressive project governance methodologies.

After Scient, Hawkins joined LogicaCMG, a global software and IT services company as executive vice president. Owning the P/L for North America, he was accountable for business development, sales, marketing, operations, delivery, customer service, and software development. He re-engineered their sales process, created a sales culture throughout the organization, and changed the organization's focus from products to solutions. He led a complex marketing and development program to roll out a revitalized product portfolio.

Hawkins founded Alpine Link Corporation in 2005, a boutique consulting firm that provides executive coaching, leadership development training, consultative sales enablement, and management consulting services to help individuals and organizations reach their full potential.[7][8]

Since 2015, Hawkins has been serving as the Chairman of Comprobe, LLC., a well logging systems provider.[9]

Coaching and consulting

Hawkins coaches, consults, and trains organizations and individuals to higher levels of performance.[10] He advises mid-size and Fortune 100 clients in a variety of industries, including information technology, construction, engineering, manufacturing, and financial services. He coaches CxO-level executives as well as mid-level managers.[11]

Hawkins has worked with large companies, small companies, public companies, private companies, and non-profits. Throughout his industry and consulting career, he has worked on challenging assignments. He enjoys tackling problems in businesses and with people that many might consider impossible. In his experience in helping people overcome their professional limitations, leading cross-functional reengineering efforts, and turning around underperforming businesses, he has uncovered recurring root cause issues that limit performance. As a result, he has developed numerous frameworks and high-impact approaches to management coaching, self-directed development, leadership development, program management, strategic planning, consultative selling, effective communications, and team building. His SCOPE of Leadership, Peak Potential Selling, Peak Potential Business Planning, and Activating Your Ambition approaches help organizations and individuals break through their limitations to achieve new levels of performance.[12]

Author

Hawkins is the author of Activating Your Ambition: A Guide to Coaching the Best Out of Yourself and Others and the SCOPE of Leadership, a six-book series on coaching leaders to lead as coaches. The six-book series originated from a 312-page leadership bootcamp workbook into a book series with a total of 1,360 pages. Hawkins spent five years developing the materials and three years writing.[13] The books in the SCOPE of Leadership series are:[14]

Personal life[edit]

Hawkins is based in Breckenridge, Colorado.[17] When not working, he enjoys snow skiing, mountain biking, hiking, motorcycle riding, fitness training, golfing, traveling, wine tasting, and wood/metalworking.[18]
