Dr. Michael Head (born 30 August 1952)[1] is an Australian academic and lecturer at the University of Western Sydney.

Biography

Academia

Head graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Laws. Head holds a master's degree in law from New York’s Columbia University, and became Western Sydney University’s first PhD graduate in law in 2004.[2][3]

Along with academia, Head has published a number of works in the fields of politics, law, democratic rights, the military, the Russian revolution and socialism.

Politics

Head has been a member of the Orthodox Trotskyist group Socialist Equality Party for over forty years, and is a regular contributor to the World Socialist Website, a Trotskyist news website associated with the group.[4]

Head has contested several seats in the Australian elections over many years. At the 2010 Australian federal election, Head contested the Greater Western Sydney seat of Fowler. In the 2013 election, Head ran for election in the Senate for the state of Queensland. In 2019, Head unsuccessfully contested the seat of Oxley, in Brisbane’s outer Western Metropolitan region, receiving 0.72% of the vote.
