Mike Salzano (born June 14, 1957) is a former American football offensive guard. He played college football at the University of North Carolina.

Early years[edit]

Salzano attended Northern High School, where he practiced football and track. He received All-conference honors in both sports as a senior.[1] He also set the North Carolina High School Athletic Association record for the 4-A shot put with a 61-feet, 41/2-inches throw.[2]

He accepted a football scholarship from the University of North Carolina.[3] He became a four-year starter at offensive guard. He was limited with injuries as a sophomore. He was named All-ACC in his last 2 seasons.[4] He was named third-team All-American as a junior.[5]

He also competed in track, setting the school record in the shot put with a 58-51/2 throw.

Professional career[edit]

Salzano was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (160th overal) of the 1979 NFL Draft, to play offensive guard.[6] On August 6, he was traded to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a draft choice (not exercised).[7] He was tried at center before being released on August 14.[8]

On February, 6, 1980, he was signed as a free agent by the Seattle Seahawks, with the intention of converting him into a linebacker.[9] He was released before the start of the season.
