Mikey Shyne
Michael Brandt a.k.a. Mikey Shyne (born August 21, 1988 in Queens, NY) is an American singer, songwriter and audio engineer.[1] He is well known for his critically acclaimed viral debut single Set Me Free [2] and #1 EDM chart topping hit Step Into The Light 2K18 which was produced by Austrian DJs Copamore & Housecrusherzzz. [3] [4]
Currently, he is finalizing his debut Studio Album which includes several celebrity features including the Godfather of Rap, Kurtis Blow. Multiple tracks on the album are being produced by legendary DJ/Producer DJ Tomekk, who has been a friend and mentor to Mikey Shyne since he arrived on the music scene in 2015.[5]
Early life
Mikey Shyne was born and raised in Bellerose, NY. His father owned his own business and his mother was a stay-at-home mom who helped raise Mikey and his five younger brothers. [6] Mikey Shyne's musical inclination was reinforced by taking part in musical theater, youth choirs and taking piano, guitar and drum lessons at early ages. He sang the National Anthem twice for the New York Mets at Shea Stadium at the ages of 11 and 12. [7] Though a career in the arts was not fully supported by his family, Mikey's passion still caused him to push through the negativity and evolve professionally.
Career
2010–2014: Early career and non-commercial releases
In the summer of 2010, Mikey Shyne began working out of a friend's basement in Southside Jamaica, Queens recording unmixed demos in an attempt to spark some sort of momentum. But because of past personal struggles with addiction, his on-again off-again approach didn't get him very far and he failed to release any music of true commercial appeal or substance. [8] Even though he still continued to write and record music, he did not do so professionally.
In March of 2013 he went away for substance abuse treatment for 4 months at St. Christopher's Inn [9] at Graymoor in Garrison, NY. [10] When in treatment, Eric Anzalone of The Village People showed up while hosting and shooting a documentary on addiction and recovery. During filming he heard Mikey, a member of the choir at the treatment center, sing a solo during a performance. Anzalone expressed interest in Mikey, hand picked him to do an off-script interview and the two became friendly. Eric Anzalone was one of the major early motivating factors for Mikey Shyne to pursue a professional music career after leaving treatment.
2015–Present
While putting a lot of internal work into himself and making necessary personal changes, Mikey continued to write and work on his vocals, taking lessons to better his technique and performance abilities. [11] A breakup with an ex-girlfriend left him emotionally distraught, but was the final force that made Mikey Shyne an overly determined and committed singer to start getting his artistic message of hope out there. He finally decided to hit a professional recording studio at Studio Ray with #1 Billboard Charting audio engineer and producer Ray Balconis. There, he recorded his debut single 'Set Me Free' , which was a surprise release to those who didn't even know he could sing. The song picked up momentum immediately landing Mikey on Radio Shows nationwide, earning him praise from critics and was a sensation and his benchmark Single at each live performance.
Shortly after the release of 'Set Me Free' he performed at his first live show. Earlier that day, he met legendary Hip Hop figure Kurtis Blow and legendary Grammy nominated producer DJ Tomekk through a friend. Both attended the performance later that evening in Brooklyn. Kurtis Blow introduced him to the stage and Mikey Shyne performed well enough to win the showcase.
DJ Tomekk continues to be a major influence and mentor. They released a Single together that summer, Put It Down which continues to be a popularly streamed song. http://indienationblog.com/mikey-shyne-put-it-down/
Mikey has provided a steady stream of singles over the past few years and is currently working on his debut Studio Album. [12] He is set to release 'Find A Way' Featuring Kurtis Blow in the spring of 2019.
Copamore
Mikey has released 3 Singles with Austrian Producer/DJ-Duo Copamore, all of which have peaked within the Top 10 in sales on iTunes and have all reached the top of the EDM Charts in multiple countries worldwide.[13] [14]
They continue to work together and have more projects in pre and post-production. Copamore is also producing multiple tracks for Mikey's debut Album.[15]
Mikey Shyne, Copamore and Housecrusherzzz reached Number 1 on the International Dance Charts with Step Into The Light 2K18, which was also an iTunes Number 1 selling compilation Album.[16]
