Milaap

Milaap

Milaap is India’s largest, zero-fee Crowdfunding platform that enables anyone across India to raise funds for pressing financial needs arising out of an unforeseen crisis. The platform encourages fundraising for medical, environmental, educational, community, animal welfare, memorial, human rights, social entrepreneurship, sports, technology, and other causes. Fundraising is made accessible for all through Milaap, by leveraging technology and a peer-to-peer model of giving.

As of today, Milaap.org has collectively raised INR 2040 crores through more than 85 lakh donations since its inception. Milaap’s community of donors comes from over 130 countries across the world and has supported 6,52,000+ projects across India. Over the last 12 years, Milaap has become the most preferred platform for people to raise and contribute funds towards their cherished causes in India.

The rising cost of medical treatments, the inequalities in healthcare access, and the lack of penetration of health insurance in India have made medical fundraising a necessity for many. Over 1 lakh Indian salaried employees form a sizable contribution of around INR 130 crores primarily to help people in need of funds for critical care medical treatments. Milaap has been the most trusted crowdfunding platform for medical emergencies, for individuals of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

History

Milaap is the pioneer of crowdfunding in India. At a time when crowdfunding/fundraising was new as a concept in the Country, Milaap started its giving platform. India has distinctly had a culture of charitable giving and Milaap believes to have enabled this better with the help of technology.

Milaap started in the year 2010 as a microlending platform that helped rural enterprises raise funds. Milaap lend is today a unique digital debt platform that channels funding for small businesses, capacity building, health, education, and sanitation projects in rural India through crowdfunding. In the year 2012, Milaap pivoted its lending business to a crowdfunding model where donors could donate to causes such as medical emergencies. Since then, the crowdfunding model has seen great traction and Milaap has raised donations of over INR 2000 crores.

By 2014, Milaap helped over 15000 people fundraise for medical emergencies on the platform and established hospital partnerships soon after. By 2018, quick pay options such as Paytm, UPI, and QR were introduced for donors and INR 174 crores were raised. Milaap became a ‘zero-fee’ platform in 2021, soon after the Milaap app was launched. Milaap has recently launched the Milaap Guarantee program where the donations are protected and donors get a refund in the rare case of a fraudulent campaign. Milaap donors now can avail of tax benefits with 80G issued under the MLPI foundation. Recently, Milaap has launched Milaap 360, an all-in-one digital fundraising solution for institutions - non-profits, social enterprises, corporate CSR, hospitals, marketing, and event management agencies. Milaap 360 offers unique engagement-driven fundraising experiences such as live streams, auctions, activity pledges, and many more. It aims to solve donor fatigue and unlock goodwill by bringing the best of offline fundraising activities online.

Milaap was founded by young and passionate entrepreneurs, Mayukh Choudhary and Anoj Vishwanathan. The founders with experience in the microfinance and business development segments have been able to help fundraising projects across India with Milaap.
