Milda Mitkutė (Vilnius, December 1985) is a Lithuanian entrepreneur known as the co-founder of Vinted, an international online marketplace for buying, selling, and exchanging new or secondhand goods. Together with Justas Janauskas, she launched the platform, which later became recognized as Lithuania's first unicorn startup.[1][2]

Vinted Foundation

In 2008, while studying at Vilnius University, Mitkutė decided to sell some of her unused clothes during a move. At a party, she met computer engineer Justas Janauskas, who proposed creating a website for that purpose. Within ten days, Janauskas had developed the first version of the platform, and Mitkutė began uploading her clothes. Initially launched for the Lithuanian market under the domain manodrabuziai.lt, the company expanded internationally in 2009 with its entry into Germany and the Czech Republic.[3][4][5]

Personal life

In 2016, ten years after co-founding Vinted and following the birth of her first child, Mitkutė stepped down from her executive role to focus on her family. She is married and has four children. During this period, she completed postgraduate studies and became involved in investing in and advising start-ups, while remaining a shareholder in Vinted and an active user of the platform with her children. She has also led a project in the educational technology sector aimed at developing tools for teaching mathematics to young children.[6][7]

Awards and recognition

In 2020, Mitkutė was nominated for the Global Lithuanian Awards in the entrepreneurship category, in recognition of her international visibility as the founder of a fast-growing technology company. That same year, Business Insider included her in its list of the ten best-funded female founders worldwide.[8][9][10]
