Mileah Kay Kromer (born 1980/1981) is an American political scientist and pollster who is an associate professor and director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics at Goucher College. She operates the Goucher Poll.
Early life and education
Kromer was born and raised in Homer City, Pennsylvania in 1981 to Bernadette Mutz.[1][2] Kromer developed an interest in politics from her grandfather, who regularly watched the evening news and read the newspaper daily.[3] She earned a B.A. in economics, cum laude, from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003.[4] Robert Stonebraker served as a mentor during her undergraduate studies.[2] Kromer originally intended to study economics but switched to political science at the suggestion of a professor who recognized her aptitude for statistics.[3] She earned an M.A. (2005) and Ph.D. in political science (2008) from the Louisiana State University.[4] Her dissertation was titled, Legislative Participation in the American States: Determinants and Consequences.[2] Kathleen Bratton was her doctoral advisor.[2]
Career
Kromer was a tenure-track assistant professor at Elon University where she served as an assistant director of the Elon University Poll.[5][2] She collaborated with Hunter Bacot on political polling and branding.[6] In 2012, she joined Goucher College where she is an associate professor of political science and director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics.[4][3] In this role, she launched the Goucher Poll.[6]
