Millan Sachania

Millan Sachania is a British educationalist, former headmaster, and music scholar. He led two HMC schools: Streatham & Clapham High School (2012–2022) and Immanuel College, Hertfordshire (2022–2024).[1] He has been a Reporting Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), a former Chair of the Girls’ Schools Association London Region, Co-Chair of the HMC/GSA Universities Committee, and long-serving independent sector representative on the UCAS Council.
He is also known as a musicologist and editor, particularly for scholarly editions of works by Leopold Godowsky, Francis Poulenc, and Igor Stravinsky.[2]
Early life and education
Sachania read music at Christ’s College, Cambridge, graduating with a Double First-Class degree. He completed a doctorate in musicology with a dissertation on the piano arrangements of Leopold Godowsky, now indexed by RILM.[3] Following this, he worked in New York as an editor for Carl Fischer Music.
Career in education
From 2012 to 2022, Sachania served as Head of Streatham & Clapham High School, part of the Girls’ Day School Trust. He was appointed Head of Immanuel College in 2022.[4] During both headships, he promoted curriculum innovation and inspection readiness, and was widely recognised for his leadership in music and the creative arts.[5]
He has also contributed nationally to education strategy, serving as:

Commentary and media coverage
Sachania has been widely cited in national press. He was interviewed in *The Daily Telegraph* for reintroducing précis-writing into 11+ entrance assessments.[6] He has also featured in *The Lady*, *The Evening Standard* and *The Sunday Times* on topics including Latin, coding, music education and public examinations.[7]

Musicological work
As an editor, Sachania has published critical editions of works by Godowsky (five volumes, Carl Fischer LLC), Poulenc, Stravinsky, Philip Glass, Otakar Ševčík, and others, for leading publishers including Chester Music, Novello and Bosworth.
His edition of *Stravinsky’s Renard*, with full commentary and source filiation, is cited by academic sources and widely used in performance. His editions of Poulenc's chamber music and Ševčík's violin studies remain in standard pedagogical use.
