Millie Kendall
Early Life & Career
Millie Kendall MBE began her career in the beauty industry at age 13, as a shampoo girl at the Michael John salon in Beverly Hills, before moving to Toni & Guy in London and then to New York to work for Bumble & Bumble. Millie then went on to work at Shu Uemura around Europe in 1990 and afterwards across the continent. Not long after, Millie was approached by Aveda who were keen to enter the UK market.
Professional Experience
In 1990, Millie met Ruby Hammer and the two went on to launch Ruby & Millie in 1998. The cosmetics line launched first in Harvey Nichols, then [1]Selfridges and went on to retail in Boots. In 2007, Kendall and Hammer were awarded an MBE for their services to the cosmetic industry.
Millie paired up with beauty journalist and ex ELLE and Vogue beauty editor Anna-Marie Solowj to launch their own beauty retail platform– BeautyMART. BeautyMART is a beauty destination which combines insider information with a great place to shop for trending beauty products ranging in price.
In 2015 alongside Solowij, Kendall launched the PR company BRANDstand Communications.
In 2018 Millie Kendall alongside Jane Boardman, Anna-Marie Solowij and Kate Shapland founded the British Beauty Council, a non-profit organisation that aims to support a successful, innovative, and inclusive British beauty industry, whereby it represents the voices, needs and opinions across the industry. Based in London, the British Beauty Council is chaired by Jane Boardman and its Chief Executive is Millie Kendall. Other executive board members include Shamadean Reid MBE, Catherine Handcock, Gemma Bellman, Ryan Woor, Josh Wood and Annie Murphy.
Awards & Recognition In 2007, Millie was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her contribution to the cosmetics industry.
Personal Life Millie lives in Highgate with her two daughters, Sadie and Lucia.
