MindMate
MindMate is an app aimed at people who suffer from Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other forms of cognitive decline.[1] The app launched in 2016 and as of April 2018 had over 500,000 users.[2]
History[edit]
MindMate was founded by Roger Arellano, Patrick Renner and Susanne Mitschke in 2015 after each spent time caring for Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers.[3] Dr. Terry Quinn, from the University of Glasgow's Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences, helped the team translate contemporary research in dementia care for the app.[4] The founders Susanne, Patrick and Roger were also named 30 Under 30 by Forbes Magazine. [5]
MindMate was named in 2016,[6] and 2017,[7] as a Scottish start-up to watch by The Scotsman.
Research[edit]
The University of Glasgow, alongside NHS Scotland, conducted a study using the MindMate app. It followed 3 individuals with early Alzheimer’s disease and showed increases in memory performance for those who participated.[8]
