MindSpa (Company)
MindSpa OÜ (formerly Synctuition) is a software company based in Tallinn, Estonia. It was founded in 2016 by Platon Tinn. It produces products specialized in mental relaxation, such as 3D soundscapes and background music, which are available on its subscription-based mobile application.
History
Originally named Synctuition, MindSpa was founded in 2016 by Platon Tinn, Allan Eesmaa, and Michael Burich. Tinn became the company’s CEO and Burich the COO. In 2016, the company released its app, Synctuition, which was made available on the App Store and Play Store.
In 2019, Google chose the company as one of the top ten fastest-growing companies in Europe in gaming and entertainment.[1] In 2020, the company’s mobile application was selected as one of the top five meditation apps in the United States according to Sensor Tower.[2] That same year, the Synctuition app was the Gold Winner in the category of Products & Services for Healthcare in the IT World Awards.
In 2021, the company partnered with corporate wellness platform Gympass in a collaboration that allowed Gympass users to download the Synctuition app for free.[3] The company also secured partnerships with Rakuten Viber and haptic technology developers Woojer.[4] [5]
Product
MindSpa OÜ produces audio relaxation products. Their primary product is the MindSpa Synctuition app, available on iPhone and Android devices. The app features 3D binaural beat sound journeys that are meant to help the user de-stress and reach a deep state of mental relaxation.[6] In 2021, the company and the Estonian manufacturer Silen launched the MindSpa booth, a soundproof, portable pod that played the Synctuition app’s meditation audios.
The company produced and distributed My Gift, a motivational documentary exploring mental health issues. My Gift was released internationally on February 11, 2023, at the Helsinki International Festival where it won Best Feature Film.[7] My Gift won several accolades at the Cannes World Film Festival 2023, including Best Mobile Phone Feature Film, Best Educational Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Inspirational Film, Best Philosophical Film, and Best Visionary Film.[8]
Research
In 2023, researchers from Rutgers University published the findings of a study that examined the impact of listening to MindSpa OÜ's audio on healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results concluded that participants’ stress scores were reduced from moderate to low stress post-intervention.[9]
Controversy
Bulgarian-based health tech startup, Mind Solutions Ltd., which developed an app by the same name, accused the MindSpa OÜ company of trademark infringement in a press release in February of 2023.
