Mindlapse is a female fronted metal band formed by original member Karina A Sher who has been the vocalist and songwriter of the band since 1996 when the band got signed to Holier Than Thou Records in 1996. The band started off as a gothic rock/metal band in 1996 with an EP called Myself And I with a line-up of Karina (vocals), Gaz (Guitars), Amber (Bass & Backing Vocals), Jamie (2nd Guitar) and Chris (Drums). They recorded with John Mitchell at The Outhouse Studios in Reading. This EP did very well and Chaz Carol from BBC Radio Leicester interviewed Karina and Gaz in the studio and plugged "The Falling Leaves" on the station.
Selling out their first batch of CDs and performing at the legendary "The Red Room" in Leicester (previously called Georges) the band started to get more interest via national media. However the line-up dissolved as Jamie, Chris and Amber joined a band with Karina's cousin Noel Singh in a band called Flip Six Three. This band Flip Six Three eventually split up but Jamie and Noel stayed in touch and are now in a covers band together called The Whisky Chasers.
in 1997 Karina Sher and Gaz Groombridge got engaged and they decided to bring in new members for Mindlapse. They decided as their influences at the time were bands such as Machine Head, Fear Factory, Tura Satana/Manhole, Biohazard, Pantera and Cypress Hill, they decided to experiment with the old school rap/metal genres but keeping the heaviness with metal vocals as well as melodic and rapping. In 1999, the band recorded the single "Lost In A Mindlapse Game" at The Outhouse Studios in Reading featuring 2nd song on the single "Wrong" and this blew up over national media with airplay and a KKKK in Kerrang Magazine. They were approached by mainstream labels but declined due to the request for them wanting to take over how they sounded and adding a DJ. They decided to continue experimentation and stayed with HTT Records. They performed various shows across the country and in their home town at The Charlotte with bands such as Kill II This, Skindred, King Prawn, Rachel Stamp, Sugarcoma, Defenestration, Vacant Stare, In Me and later on Napalm Death. This line-up consisted of Karina (vocals), Gaz (guitar), Luke (Drums), Dan (2nd Guitar) and Phil (Bass).
Later in 2001, they met Nish Rana (bass player/guitarist) and advertised for a 2nd guitarist because Dan felt the band wasn't his thing. They went back to the studio and recorded a second single called "Love My Hate" with 2nd track "From The Strong" and were described as "baby eating raw" by Kerrang Magazine and "Primal Machine Head meets My Ruin with System Of A Down's Eastern Edge" in the Check Em Out article in Metal Hammer Magazine. This line up was Karina (vocals), Gaz (Guitars) Nish (Bass) Paul (Guitars) and Dan (Drums). In 2001 they did a short 3 date tour to include a date at Rock City in Nottingham on a Saturday where they sold out all their singles at the show and that year. They played Islington "The Red Eye" in London and Kerrang Fest at The Charlotte in Leicester. They also played a show called Identity Crisis at Alcatraz (know as Oxygen, Sector 5, Retribution). They were featured on a Tribal Sins - Compilation CD by Empty Productions also. They then released another single called "My Other Day" with 2nd track "Unforgivable" and this single received more interest and landed them a deal with Chaz Carol as their new agent for Mindlapse. They did meet and greets with Tairrie B, Reef, Sepultura, Ill Nino, Machine Head and were VIPs for festivals in England. Chaz went to every gig in Leicester and he recommended Mindlapse to his contacts.
Later in the studio they did a new single with line up Karina (vocals), Gaz (guitars), Nish (bass), Llewelyn JR (guitars) and Matt (Drums and this was called "Like That" with 2nd song as "Strength & Beyond" this track was featured on the COP OUT Magazine, they were also interview by Callum for the rock show at Takeover Radio and got to number 1 with the track "Strength & Beyond". The music was aired nationally in clubs and in radio stations and the band had their CDs out in independent stores across the UK. They also got a full page spread in The Leicester Mercury and an article later that year describing Gaz and Karina "The Sonny & Cher Of The Metal Scene" as in 2001 Gaz and Karina were married. They also played Ragebreed 2001 at The Shed in Leicester on Karina's Birthday 1st October that year.
In 2002, the band went back in the studio to record single "Finally Survive" with 2nd track "As I Do" and this single went viral. It was aired on stations and the track "As I Do" was aired at Maria's Sex To 9 Show on Total Rock Radio. They performed the White House in Derby and packed it out, they played Dublin Castle in Camden including The Red Rose Theatre in Rugeley and Coventry Coliseum. Later in 2002, Adrian Mc Glennon joined Mindlapse as a drummer and the new line-up ended up as Karina (vocals), Gaz (Guitars), Nish (Bass/Keyboards) and Adrian (Drums).
In 2003, Karina and Gaz split up and in 2004, Karina moved to Nottingham. They decided to continue the band but Adrian left to focus more on his project Black River Project. Karina created a new line-up with Karina (vocals), Gaz (Bass) Nish (Guitars), Nathan (Guitars) and Davydd on drums. They decided to go for a more death metal sound. Karina and Nish were invited to an interview with Malcolm Dome who plugged the whole EP "Souls For Sinners" and did a Mindlapse special. They were also interviewed by Justin Case at HFM Radio.
In 2005,the band recorded a melodic death metal single called "Haunted" with 2nd track "The Prophecy". This single was the last single recorded by Nish's friend Dan. This single has been aired globally and was described as "Arch Enemy meets Lacuna Coil with early Opeth's progressive edge". Earlier that year, Karina spoke to the band Insomnium (Candlelight Records) and they agreed to do their first UK tour with the band. Karina organised the tour as tour manager of Ragebreed, Karina and Gaz sold their home to raise funds to make it happen and they went around the UK in a 16 berth tour berth with dates in Rock City in Nottingham, Sheffield Corporation, Bradford Rios and Camden Koko in London. The last date was an all dayer with Napalm Death headlining. Ragebreed called this tour the Under The Earth UK Tour and it consisted of Cancer, Insomnium, Mindlapse, Gutworm and Cruel Humanity and was booked and went ahead in 2005. Line-up problems again was an issue as Nathan took his focus in his band Lordaeron at the time and so the band split. Karina and Gaz got an official divorce as Gaz no longer wanted to do music. Karina was close to ending the band, but tried again, but with the new line-ups nothing was consistent or got recorded so she put the band on a hiatus until 2015 when she released a discography album called "Forgotten Memories Of Past Lives" digitally via Ragebreed Records and concentrated on her other acoustic doom project Lake Of Dreams.
In 2020, Ragebreed Records released "Myself And I" EP, "In Darkness, Creation Is Born" album, "Souls For Sinners" EP, "Visions" Single, "Haunted" single and the discography album "Forgotten Memories Of Past Lives" digitally and is available to buy on iTunes and streamed from most streaming sites. In 2020, Karina was interviewed by Misery Point Radio, UG Media, Fist Full Of Metal, plus much more regarding Mindlapse, Ragebreed, Lake Of Dreams and Ragefest. Karina owns all the song writing rights for all Mindlapse music and now it belongs to the label Ragebreed Records. In 2020, Karina confirmed Jimi Mitchell, from the USA, as the new guitarist of Mindlapse and later in 2021 Michael Cook became the next recruit for the new line up for 2021. They are looking for a bass player, drummer and keyboard player and will be recording a brutal melodic death metal album. The tracks "Haunted" and "The Prophecy" will be learned ready for the tour once COVID is over. The band will be in Issue 2 of Ragebreed Magazine and on the magazine compilation CD. The tracks Haunted and The Prophecy have been plugged by national and international media. The writing process for the new album is happening this year.
