Minori Aoi (Japanese: 葵 みのり, Hepburn: Aoi Minori, born March 28, 1980) is a Japanese former AV idol.

Life and career[edit]

Debut and early adult videos[edit]

Born in Tokyo on March 28, 1980, Minori Aoi was active in tennis during junior high school and high school.[2] She made her AV debut in the February 1999 release for the Media Station Cosmos Plan label, Pure Heart (純心).[3] Her first video was a difficult experience for her. She recalls, "I really hated it at the time. I think I also cried during then… it's the worst one I've been in. It's definitely not something I could recommend to my fans."[2]

In November of her debut year, Aoi starred in Dreaming Sailor, a campus drama.[4] I Love Big Needle from January 2000 had Aoi playing the role of a nurse who is subject to sexual abuse from both the doctors and her patients.[5] In Angel, released later the same month, Aoi acted as an angel who comes to earth to satisfy mortal desires.[6] Fetish Virgin IV from March 2000, subtitled Costume Play Mania, featured Aoi in the popular cosplay genre.[7]

Comeback[edit]

Aoi quickly became a popular star of adult video, image video, photo books, and magazine appearances. However, even after her success, she retained her ambivalent attitude towards the AV profession, saying "I still can't get used to shooting in front of a camera though. There are some that enjoy it or get turned on by it, but I still get nervous even after fifteen tapes. There are times when I ponder about running out."[2] She retired from the AV industry briefly in 2000 but returned in March 2001 in the video Minori Aoi - Underground Job. The AV had Aoi playing the role of a room service maid.[8] Her second come-back video, Confinement (April 2001), was in the bondage genre.[9] Up to this point in her career, Aoi had appeared mainly with the Cosmos Plan label. In June 2001, she released her first video under the Try-Heart Corporation's SexiA label. Entitled I Want To Fellatio, the video focused on Aoi's oral sex techniques.[10] The DVD version of this film included an instructional "How to Have an Orgasm" demonstration given by Aoi in a cheerleader costume.[11]

Later career[edit]

Aoi was featured in the fashion magazine An An in 2003, and in November of that year Cosmos Plan re-issued her work for the company in three volumes, and collected into one box set.[12]

In 2012, when DMM held a poll of its customers to choose the 100 all-time best AV actresses to celebrate the 30th anniversary of adult videos in Japan, Aoi finished in 81st place in the overall balloting.[13]
