Minto Marketplace (formerly named Minto Mall) is a shopping centre located in the south western Sydney suburb of Minto.
History
Development on Minto Mall started around 1980, the cost of Minto Mall was $13 million with 200 construction workers assigned to the construction of the mall. Minto Mall was opened to the public on 28 April 1981, it included a Coles New World supermarket and a Kmart discount department store.[3]
Decline and renovation
Due to neglect from the previous owner, Minto Mall greatly declined over the years losing the vast majority of its tenants. By the early 2010s Minto Mall was considered to be a dead mall; the Kmart and the Coles stores had since closed down and by 2012 only 6 stores remained open, one of which was a Food For Less supermarket.[4]
In July 2012 a group of local private investors purchased Minto Mall and stated that they would restore it by 2013.[5] In July 2013 construction began on the renovation and in December 2013 Minto Mall reopened as "Minto Marketplace" and attracted 165,000 shoppers on its three-day grand re-opening.[6]
Expansion
In mid-2021 it was announced that Minto Marketplace would be undergoing a $10 million expansion. They announced that a restaurant and dining precinct, child care centre, expanded Woolworths supermarket with a drive through click and collect point and internal restrooms renovations and improvements would be included with this expansion.[7]
Shopping / Facilities
Major retailers include Woolworths, Kmart, Priceline, Lowes, The Reject Shop, Best & Less and Millers.
