Mir Shamsuddin Iraqi

Mir Syed Shamsuddin Araqi (died 1526) was a Sufi saint. Mir Syed Shamsuddin was a disciple of Shah Qasim Anwer, and came from Araq ( the modern day town in Iran) to Kashmir.He initially visited the valley to fetch a medicinal herb for Shah Qasim Anwar. He later returned to Kashmir to spread Islam. He converted a well known person to Islam, who renamed himself Malik Moosa Raina. Raina gifted Mir Syed Shamsuddin the area which is today known as Zadibal, in Srinagar. The Descendants of Mir Syed Shamsuddin still live in that area and are called Markadars.The Markadars lived in the heart of zadibal and prayed at a mosque which was later taken over by the Ansaries, and Markadars were left with nothing.This mosque is currently known as Imambara, Zadibal.Some of his descendants went to Budgam and came to be known as Agas. Mir Syed Shamsuddin died in Zadibal and was buried at Astan e shareef, Zadibal. During the reign of tyrant ruler Haider Kashgiri,his coffin was secretly taken to Chadoora tehsil in Budgam district afer attacks on his initial grave in Zadibal. His son Syed Daniyal took over his job after his death but was martyred by Haider Kashgiri who killed many other saints and is buried at Dab, a village in Ganderbal.
