Mirwais
Mirwais Rekab was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. He started in 1992 at Afghan Films, the National Cinema Institute. During these years, a tough civil war destroyed Kabul. From 1996 to 2001, under the Taliban regime, when all cinemas were completely banned, he took exile in Pakistan. He was a refugee there for five years, making films for NGOs. Just after the liberation of Kabul, in December 2002, he returned to Afghanistan at Afghan Films. He directed several short films and was first assistant director for Osama, the Golden Globe and Cannes festival-rewarded film of Siddiq Barmak, and cameraman on the film of Atiq Rahimi, Ash and Earth, which was selected for the Cannes festival in 2004.
