Miss Charm International is an annual beauty pageant that was held for the first time in 1989 in the former Soviet Union, where Turkey's representative Meltem Hakarar was the winner. After an absence of 30 years, the contest returned with new owners in Vietnam.[1][2][3]

History

In 1989, at the Cosmos Hotel (Moscow), the first edition of the International Beauty Contest, called "Miss Charm International," was held. In this new contest, women from several European countries attended, including participants from Germany, Norway, Turkey, Poland, USSR (Soviet Union), Israel, Singapore, and other countries.

Miss Charm International 1989 brought together former candidates and representatives who had participated in other important competitions such as Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss International among others. In the first edition, Meltem Hakarar, the representative of Turkey, 19 years old and 1.82 m tall, was crowned as the first Miss Charm International 1989. A year prior, she represented Turkey in Miss Universe 1988.

In 1990, the second edition of Miss Charm International was held in the city of Moscow with the participation of 28 participants from all over the world, and not only from the European continent. At the end of the event, Kavita Sidhu of Malaysia was the winner.[4]

The contest was only held for two years, in 1989 and 1990, due to scandals within the organization, after which it was discontinued.[5]

Return

Through a press conference, the president of the organization, Nguyễn Thị Thuý Nga, announced the new edition of Miss Charm International 2020. The city of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, was announced as the host city, responsible for celebrating this edition of Miss Charm.[6][7]

This edition expected the participation of women from more than 50 countries around the world. Contestants participate in various cultural activities in the host country during the concentration period, in addition to competing in categories such as ball gowns, swimsuits, national typical costumes, among other activities.[8][9]

It was envisaged that this edition would take place from January 05 to 17, 2020, but due to the low enrollment of candidates, it was postponed to be held on March 17, 2020.[10]
