Misscatylove is a Moldovan singer based in Manchester. They are known for their attempt to represent Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song "Intro".[1] The song, which is characterised by jarring sound effects and no lyrics, was described as "post-avantgarde" by Wiwibloggs[1] and Escbubble.[2]
Career
In 2021, Misscatylove released the song "Friends", which they had made in 2014.[3][4]
In 2022, their song "Intro", which was originally released in December 2021 as the lead single from the Moldovan singer's upcoming album GOTHICA: The New Era, was revealed as one of the 30 final candidates to represent Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.[5] They were forced to withdraw, at first naming "personal reasons" as the reason, and eventually elaborating that COVID-19 restrictions prevented the Manchester-based artist from flying to the auditions in Chișinău.[1]
On the day of their withdrawal, they announced that they will attempt to represent Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 instead, with a song titled "Outro".[6] The song will feature Romanian lyrics.[1]
According to Joe Bleasdale of Escbubble, "it's fair to say that Misscatylove has gained more publicity in the space of a few hours than most Eurovision artists can dream of even after the Grand Final, and this will be a moment for the annals of ESC fan history."[2]
Musical style
Misscatylove describes their own genre as being [heavy] metal.[7]
Describing their music, they have stated: "[sic] I am a singer who loves to sing and makes very good music as you can see from friends".[7]
Personal life
They are non-binary, and use they/them pronouns. They reside in Manchester.[1]
