Mission Remission is a grassroots community-run charity with a mission to improve the experience of cancer recovery for people in England and Wales. The charity maintains an online platform with over 15,000 community members.
The organisation runs local and national campaigns to help people get diagnosed with cancer earlier, improve relationships with clinical teams, improve the experience of those dealing with cancer, and to raise awareness of the long term consequences of cancer treatment. [1][2]
History
Mission Remission was founded in 2016 as a community interest company, registering with the Charity Commission in 2019 and becoming a charitable incorporated organisation. The charity was founded by Laura Fulcher, a two-time cancer survivor.[3]
Mission Remission’s head office is in the Fitzrovia Community Centre, which sits on the boundary between Camden and Westminster. The organisation also has bases and delivers projects in Warwickshire, Dorset, and Norfolk.
Charitable activities
Mission Remission runs an online hub for cancer survivors, sharing over 200 stories and strategies of ‘people surviving and thriving’. The aim of the charity is to "help people borrow faith, resilience and morale from others, to validate experiences, and learn how to navigate life after cancer."[4] Over 260,000 people have accessed this support. In a 2021 survey, they found over 80% of people felt that the hub benefited their wellbeing.[5]
The organisation also runs national support groups, a volunteer team to work with cancer survivors on advocacy efforts, and other community activities, such as their Walk and Talk project.[6]
