Mission Secure is a cybersecurity technology and solutions provider headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States with its energy division based in Houston, Texas, United States.[1][2] The organization’s MSi Platform provides network visibility, asset discovery, network mapping, segmentation and controller protection, plus Level 0 visibility and protection in a single platform.[3]

Mission Secure was co-founded in 2014 by David Drescher, Dan Park, and Edward Pernotto. Drescher and Park previously started Roam Secure which provided emergency response communications and mass notification services to government and industry customers.[2]

The company originally developed its Secure Sentinel Platform for military customers to protect critical platforms such as ships and unmanned aerial vehicles against security threats. MSi now markets the technology to the oil and gas, power, chemical industries in a push to help industrial customers manage security of control systems and critical processes.[4]

History[edit]

In November 2014, Mission Secure closed its seed financing round led by Ballast Fund investors, a private equity firm and several high net worth angel investors.[1]

Between 2014 and 2017, Mission Secure secured 3 additional initial funding rounds. Early stage venture groups, Blue Bear Capital, the University of Virginia Seed Fund, and Jaffray Woodriff, a Charlottesville hedge fund manager, and Felton Group, LLC, participated in the financing.[5]

In October, 2018, Mission Secure raised an $8 million Series A round led by Chevron Technology Ventures and Energy Innovation Capital, and also included Blue Bear Capital, Felton Group, Macquarie Capital, RGA Ventures, and the University of Virginia Seed Fund bringing its total funding to $13.8 million.[6][2]

Product and Services[edit]

The company makes proprietary software and hardware to protect the industrial control systems used in the energy, defense and transportation markets.[2]

Mission Secure uses technology invented by Barry Horowitz, a professor at the University of Virginia’s (UVa) School of Engineering & Applied Science. The UVa Licensing & Ventures Group holds the rights to this intellectual property.[2]

Accolades[edit]
