Mission Square Retirement
ICMA-RC, headquartered in Washington, D.C. and now doing business as MissionSquare Retirement, is the largest nonprofit retirement financial services 457 plan provider serving state and local governments in the United States.[1][2] The company manages more than $70 billion in assets for employees working in the public sector and recently expanded services to the education, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors.[3] It was the first organization to create a way to make retirement assets portable between localities for city and county managers,[4] but it now serves all types of government employees including those in public administration, public transit, public works, police and fire safety. The company serves cities, counties, municipalities and local townships in 49 states and the District of Columbia.[5]
History
ICMA-RC was founded in 1972 by the International City/County Management Association, one of the Big Seven, with the help of a Ford Foundation grant, to offer the first retirement plans to city and county managers that were portable between cities.[4]
