Mission of Mercy

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The 'Mission of Mercy' [1] is a rescue flight mission operated by SriLankan Airlines on 30th January, 2020. The mission was carried out on the instruction of His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The mission is an evacuation operation to bring back 33 Sri Lankan citizens who were stranded in the lockdown of Wuhan Province, China due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Mission was operated by Flight UL 1422/1423 with a 16-member crew of SriLankan Airlines, which lasted more than twenty hours of an extremely long turnaround flight from Colombo to Wuhan and back. The Country, The President, The People and the company SriLankan Airlines express gratitude to its courageous crew members and staff who volunteered to fly into Wuhan. [2]

Another noble act from the crew is that they refused all the incentives paid for that flight duty. The entire crew of SriLankan flight UL 1422/23 that volunteered to operate the Wuhan flight have decided to decline all the flight allowances paid for the said duty period respectfully. Also, the crew requested the company authorities to use those funds to buy masks, gloves, and other personal protective items for the SriLankan Airlines staff engaged in ground handling at Bandaranyake International Airport [3].
