Paula Smiley, professionally known as Miz Korona, is a performing artist, photographer and activist in Detroit, Michigan. Smiley is known for her role in the movie 8 Mile, gaining wide recognition for her flow. Additionally, she has worked as an MC for national touring acts including Scarface and Run DMC. Smiley released her first album Dope Muzik in 2010.

Early years

Hailing from Detroit, Miz Korona stepped into the rapping scene at the age of 14. She received close mentorships with local producers and earned experience in cyphers across stages from St. Andrew’s Hall to Lush Lounge.[1] Her standout moment came from her appearance in the 2002 film 8 Mile where she stood among her peers in the iconic lunch-truck scene.[2]

Photography and business

In addition to her rapping career, Korona found a passion in photography and activism. Following the creation of her business Trigger Finger Visuals, she worked on projects with Allied Media, Liv6District etc.[1]

Personal life

Miz Korona is openly lesbian. In recent years, Miz Korona has been more open about her LGBTQ identity despite knowing it has made her life in hip hop more difficult. In the past, she has had to cut ties with production companies after being told not to speak about her sexuality.[3]
