Modern Auto is a Chinese manufacturer of electric passenger cars based in Shanghai operating since 2019.
History
Startup Modern Auto was founded in 2019 in Shanghai by Chinese entrepreneur Liu Xin[1], targeting the development of electric cars on the dynamically developing electric vehicle market in China, the so-called New Energy Vehicles[2]. The first results of work on the Modern car were presented in the form of photographs and preliminary technical specifications in October 2020, tentatively calling it Modern A[3].
The production model, as a fully electric compact hatchback, under the name Modern IN, debuted on the domestic Chinese market in May 2021[1]. Serial production and deliveries of units are scheduled for the second half of 2021[1], in turn, thanks to the employment of over 200 people[1] and financial liquidity, the startup plans to expand its model offer and also start selling on foreign markets – mainly Europe and North America[3].
