Mohamad Bassem Al Sheikh (Arabic: محمد باسم الشيخ‎; born 18 April 1970) is a Palestinian businessman, philanthropist and a horse breeder who was born in Nazareth, Israel.

Early years

His father, Bassem Al Sheikh, is a high-school head teacher. He managed the Nazarene football club “ Maccabi Ahi Nazareth “ for more than a decade, as well as becoming the first Arab to enter the board of the Israeli Football Association. His mother, Sanaa, comes from a wealthy family from a small village in the Northern District called Tamrah. His elder brother, Amjad, is currently a manager of “Mezrahi – Tefahot Bank”, while the rest of his siblings are running their own businesses. Mohamad attended the Fransciscan Convent & Highschool, where he excelled in classes and won prizes in mathematics and physics. In his youth, he attended the Brilliant Youth Center for talented youth summer camp. He graduated school with perfect scores in the Bagrut examinations.

Business activities

In 2017, Al Sheikh Real Estate started working on important real estate projects, beginning by building and renovating many hotels and expanding the brand's footprint in different cities like Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. From 2015 to 2020, AlSheikh invested in a variety of companies such as Chocolate, Cheese and Wine production companies, most recently making a huge investment in a medical cannabis company that advances the world's perception of cannabis by focusing on research, product development and innovative production capability. By owning Odin Media, Al Sheikh Real Estate, Dates production and trading, and Al Sheikh Stud, Mohammad decided to establish a conglomerate parent company called Al Sheikh Group that owns all the other companies.

Career

Mohammad dropped out of college in his sophomore year in order to complete his project. He recruited 4 of his high school classmates and started working together. Three years later, Mohamad made his first exit. Al Sheikh is known as a young entrepreneur who started his business career at a really young age. By the time he became 23 years old, AlSheikh had already started his real estate company under the name of Al Sheikh Real Estate company. In 2016, Mohammad established his personal horse stud under the name of "Al Sheikh Stud" where he has left his mark on the Arab Horses field.

Al Sheikh Stud

Since it was first established in 2016, Al Sheikh Horse Stud has fast become recognized internationally, winning world championships in Paris and across Europe. Al Sheikh Horse Stud has enjoyed great success across Europe and the Middle East, and it is in Paris where Mohammed Al Sheikh’s horses have dominated. Al Sheikh Stud was off to a meteoric rise, winning a silver in its first year and winning the Championship in 2018 with the mare Equator, and most recently the filly Algamra who dominated the championship and got titled as The World Horse Champion for 2019. This made Mohamad Al Sheikh the first person ever to win The World Horse Championship twice in a row, and the youngest person to ever achieve this title. Mohammed Al Sheikh, with his dedication and passion to the Arabian horse breed, has made the Sheikh Stud become an internationally recognized farm, and one that enjoys international success.

Donations

Al Sheikh has contributed millions of dollars to the field of education through generous donations and grants to several schools and organizations. His donations have gone mostly towards fellowships and scholarships for deserving students in the fields of engineering and computer science, especially to Arab students inside Israeli universities. He is also the main sponsor for more than 10 organizations and a lot of other national charities such as Akim (an organization for people with intellectual disabilities). Every year, Al Sheikh runs a donation campaign, one that’s called “Sufficiency”, which provides families who are in need with unlimited supplies, food and beverages. What’s unique about this campaign is that it doesn’t stop unless there is no more demand.
