Shah Abbasi Caravanserai

In the 25th km of the south of Qazvin and in the middle of the vast plain of Booin Zahra which had once been the crowded caravan path of Qazvin-Isfahan, there is a large caravanserai left from the Safavid period which with 4 circular towers has got a pentagonal form from the outside view. The entrance portal-on the south side- through a large eight-sided vestibule above which a dome is laid is jointed to the yard, vestibules, rooms, and the wall-arcades around. The rectangular yard of the monument with dimensions of 42.2m×50.5m is so regularly stretched that its buildings are provided with complete symmetry. At the center of four directions an elevated veranda is separately raised. Also the north and south verandas as well as the east and west ones which are totally 34 verandas are respectively flanked with 5 and 6 wall-arcades. Behind the north, west and east booths, there is a thoroughly long hall-3.8m wide- that is connected to the yard through four wall-arcades situated in four corners of the yard. It might be used as a stable at the time. The building is completely bricked up and only one course of stone is used in the internal façade of the yard.
