Mohammad Shafaie (Persian: محمد شفائی; born 17 Jul 1963) is an Iranian fencer, Founder and owner of the Freehold Fencing Academy.[2] He competed in the men's individual and team foil events.[3][4]
Biography
Mohammad has been involved in fencing most of his life, except for a few years when his participation in fencing was interrupted by the war between Iran and Iraq where he served his country and thereafter he immigrated to the USA in 1984.[5]
In 1989 he was delighted to be able to resume his passion and interest in fencing, and he has not stopped since. He owes much gratitude to many good professionals who helped foster this passion in him and have always encouraged him to continue with his passion. Ms. Mahvash Shafaie, Mr. Manoochehr Shafaei, Mr. Ali Asghar Pashapour and Esmaeil Pashapour, and many others who all played in 1972 Summer Olympics, 1976 Summer Olympics and Asian Olympics were an inspiration and help to him.
Just as he was helped, it is his goal and desire to be able to help other young people engage and succeed in this sport by being a coach to them and seeing the tradition continue and live forever.[5]
Mohammad has been residing in USA since 1985 and lives in Freehold Township, New Jersey with his wife and two young children (Ali, Kaveh) who are also carrying the family tradition of fencing.[5]
