Biography[edit]

During his youth, he was a singer but after a dispute with his brother, he traveled to Tehran and served for some time in the Atriad (a mixed infantry and infantry brigade) of Hamedan and once in Qazvin and Isfahan. In 1921, he was part of Reza Shah's army and was involved in the attack on Tehran, and on the first day of the coup he reached the rank of Brigadier General.[1]

For a long time he was the commander of Lorestan and West Azerbaijan and Khuzestan divisions. In 1934, he was promoted to Major General. He received the Order of Zolfaghar, the highest award of the Imperial Iranian Ground Forces. He also received an sword from Reza Shah and became an assistant general. He is the second Iranian general in the Imperial Iranian Ground Forces.[lower-alpha 1] After the formation of the Retired Officers and Ranks Association, Shahbakhti became the president of the association and held this position until the end of his life.

Shahbakhti was known as Brigadier General Mohammad Zakaria until 1927, but he won one of the battles and was given the rank of Bakht Shah and changed his surname from Zakaria to Shahbakhti.[2]
