Mohammed Abu Zaid Al Damanhury
Mohammed Abu Zaid Al Damanhury was an Al-Azhar University 20th century Qurani scholar. Little is known about him due to his religious views and, particularly, his interpretation of the Quran entitled Guidance and Wisdom from Interpretation of the Quran using the Quran[1] The publication of this book[2] caused a major shock within the Al-Azhar community, and led to its 'seizure'.[3][4][5] Al Damanhury was subsequently prosecuted, and possibly executed.[citation needed]
According to Ali Gomaa, he "differed" in opinion regarding mainstream miracles by prophets, inheritance in islam, the banning of alcohol, and the hijab.[6]
