Mohammed Aqra is the Chief Strategy Officer of the Arab Fashion Council, the world's largest non-profit fashion council as an INGO for the Arab World representing the 22 Arabic countries member of the Arab League. He was appointed Chief Strategy Officer in 2018 at age of 25 to become one of the youngest strategists representing an international authority. His role largely involves developing the strategy with international and regional partners in order to foster the growth of regional designers on a global stage.[1] Aqra promotes peace in the Middle East through the Arab Fashion Council by aligning its strategy to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals[2][3]

Education

Aqra attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated with double degrees in International Business and International Business Law.[4]

Career

In April 2020, Mohammed Aqra helped to launch “A Thread 4 Cause” an emergency network of fashion designers in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority to support the health care sector during the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][6][3][7]

In August 2020 he launched as part of the Arab Fashion Council with Marie Claire Arabia the Beirut Fashion Relief Initiative to help Lebanese designers who were affected by the Beirut Blast.[8][3]

In January 2021, he became one of the founding members of the First Men's Arab Fashion Week that became a major hit as the first Men's Fashion Week in the history of the Arab world. With the addition of the Men's edition, the Arab Fashion Week, one of the world's five most important fashion events alongside New York, London, Milan, and Paris is now hosted in Dubai 4 times a year.[9][10][11][12][13]

Aqra works directly with the other fashion organization and in particular, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode and oversees the Arabs in Paris initiative that showcases Arab fashion designers at Paris Fashion Week.[14][15][16][3]

Awards

In 2020, Aqra has been awarded a certificate of honor and appreciation from Dubai Health Authority for his efforts and contribution to the Dubai Health Care sector to help in curbing the spread of COVID-19.[17][18][19]
