Mojca Širok is a Slovene journalist who currently works at Slovene National Television »RTV Slovenija« as news anchor, presenter and producer.[1]

Mojca Širok was born in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. She graduated from the Slovene and Italian language at the Ljubljana Faculty of Philosophy and holds a Master's degree in Sociology of Culture.

She began her journalistic career as a radio leader on the local student radio, Radio Študent, and she wrote her first press report on the Sicilian Mafia for the Mladina magazine in 1995.

For 13 years, Mojca Širok worked as a corespondent from Italy and the Vatican City for national television RTV Slovenija.

In 2000, she recorded a documentary film entitled Silence in Palermo ("Molk v Palermu"), for which she received the national media Award Gong. She was an anchor and presenter for informative television shows Slovenski dnevnik and Odmevi. In 2004 and 2005 she received Viktor, the Media Award for best television broadcaster.

In 2010, she published two books. First, on Italian criminal organisations Governance without a face ("Oblast brez obraza"), and second, The last Roman Emperor ("Zadnji rimski cesar") on the political rise of former Italian prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. In 2014, she published a book From Benedict to Francis – a revolution in the church of the Cardinals ("Od Benedikta do Frančiška – revolucija v Rimskokatoliški cerkvi") . In November 2017, her biography of Pope Francis was released in the weekly edition of the magazine Mladina.

For her debut in fiction literature, criminal novel Contract ("Pogodba"), she received the Book Award modra ptica 2017.

Since 2016, she has been named an editor of foreign affair show "Globus", broadcasted on national television RTV Slovenija.
