Monaspa
Monaspa — royal guard in feudal Georgia. It was founded by Davit Agmashenebeli. Monaspa included 5,000 horsemen, "slaves" or selected professional warriors in the personal service of the king. Monaspa was the king's guard corps, which often carried out responsible military operations against foreign enemies. Monaspa included pilgrims of various nationalities and religions, mainly, apparently, Georgian and North Caucasus mountaineers and feudal lords of Eastern Georgia left landless by the Turks. The great majority of non-Christian "slaves" were gradually converted to Christianity. The warriors were always with the king or the palace and lived at the mercy of the king. Davit Agmashenebeli highly valued "slaves", who were the main support of his government in the fight against the feudal opposition
